i agree with bdo, you need to make a JOINT budget. $70-$150+ a month on shopping is honestly a lot, especially while you are paying down debt. when i had credit card debt i would blow a lot on books, but then i started going to the library instead. while paying down debt, you need to suspend/trim that excess spending b/c income is being redirected to the debt. at least until the debt is paid off. the harder part i think for couples is being on the same page with the budgeting. i think you are handling it well- don't feel guilty!

What has worked for me is three checking accounts. A joint, hers, and my account helps distinguish our spending habits. We allocate a certain portion of the budget to her and my account. Once the money is transferred we spend as we see fit for our own accounts; for all those "me" gifts. Once it is spent, we can't have anymore until next payday. This works, because we can splurge a little when we want to. God Bless in your journey!

I would have YELLED at the gym. No proof? Don't they know when their gym memberships expire?

I would go to high hell to correct this. But that's just how I do things when people are being idiots...

The last time I calculated, it looked like it will take 2 years, but I am interviewing for a second job this Wednesday, and that extra income could shave off some serious time. Also Just Him has been discussing a possible promotion which would also add a bit more to the snowball.

I just spoke with my husband who drove all the way down to the gym only to be told he has to come back on Monday when the bank will be open. It's the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard. The owner can't remember to call on his own?? Just Him can't be the first to ever cancel his membership there. I'd like to go, too on Monday and make a scene, but my husband get's embarrassed easily, plus I think it's good for him to handle it on his own.

congrats on your blog, I started my blog in october 07, pre dave. I found dave in jan of 08 and I do a lot more financial blogs but i still have a big mix of my personal life well now its all tied together and people are reading it. I am glad some of the info helps others but some just argue with me lol. Its fun for me and its been therapeutic a lot of times. My advice would be to just keep doing what your doing. GOOD LUCK!
